These are dice for "Fortunes and Winds." They're a game-within-a-game for "The Legend of the Five Rings" Role-Playing Game. Full rules for the mini-game can be found on page 107 of "The Way of the Scorpion" (AEG 3008).
I made these for a good friend of mine; he introduced me to Rokugan and dropped a lot of his 1E material on me.
Pencil
First, I penciled the Kanji on each face. I'm sure my Kanji leaves a LOT to be desired.
Rotary Tool
Second, I carved the Kanji into each face with a Rotary Tool (like a Dremel).
Paint
Third, I stained the "moon die", and (carefully!) brushed acrylic paint into the grooves. Again, I'm sure my Kanji leaves a lot to be desired!
Polycrylic
Finally, I applied polycrylic to (hopefully) keep the acrylic paint from chipping.
