The Miskatonic University chapter of EONS is run by Professor Thaldon.

It's 1989. In your evening Medieval Metaphysics class, you notice Professor (Alfie) Thaldon step out about 20 minutes after turning the floor over to a guest lecturer. The guest lecturer, Dr. (Carrie) Tanis is showing clips the recent Batman film as she talks about justice—and vigilantes—in Medieval Society.
As usual, several of your fellow students are barely paying attention. Marcus and Lauren seem particuarly distracted. Tristan is actually watching a game on a hand-held TV.
Each person... Dr. Tanis, Marcus, Lauren, and Tristan leave individually at some point during the lecture. Why?
You also leave at one point during the lecture. Why?
The lecture ends, and Professor Thaldon never returns, so Dr. Tanis awkwardly dismisses the class. In the faculty parking lot just outside the lecture hall, you find Professor Thaldon, dead from a single gunshot to the head.
Professor Thaldon runs your EONS chapter.

Intense, charismatic head of the Miskatonic University EONS chapter.
May be starting down the road dementia; he'll sometimes refer to incidents from medieval life as if he were there.
Surprisingly spry for his age... when he (rarely) gets excited.

Professor Thaldon is sprawled on the pavement on the driver's side of his car.
No powder burns... he wasn't shot up close.
A murder by a single gunshot is strange... not professional. But a hell of a good shot for a non-pro.

It's a small, 25-car, faculty-only parking lot. Students park in a bigger parking lot a quarter-mile from here. There are only two cars parked here.
All the parking lots are well-traveled by campus security
This is hardly an ideal spot for a mugging, but maybe for an ambush.

It's an unremarkable vehicle, in terms of make and model. But it's attrociously messy, filled with fast food wrappers. The car is locked.
The electronic key fob will not work.
It's strange that the door won't unlock.
If you unlock it manually, the electonics are dead. If you open the hood to look at the battery, the battery has black marks on the poles where it was discharged.
From the spatter on the car... the professor was leaned down to unlock the door when he was shot.

The guest lecturer seems shaken. She's glancing around at every new sound or noise. She's looking around, as if for the shooter. And she's looking at the other car in the parking lot. She wants to leave.
Dr. Tanis sees [whatever secret accessory Miskatonic EONS wear to identify themselves to each other], and clearly recognizes it; you know that she knows that you're EONS.
Remember: She knows that the main character THINKS they are EONS.
No way she has a gun on her; or, if she did, no way she could get to it.

Marcus and Lauren are huddled up together, whispering amongst themselves. Lauren seems to be comforting Marcus.
Marcus and Lauren were both failing this class; they struggled during discussions. They're both engineering majors, and they'd hoped to learn about historical science rather than metaphysics.
No way these two pulled the trigger; they're shaking like leaves. If they killed Professor Thaldo, they didn't do it, they arragned it.

Tristan looks annoyed. "Do you think they'll just give us A's?" he asks you as you walk up.
While Tristan looks like an athlete, you know he's a Tolkein nut. He's been sniffing around about EONS.
Oh yeah, this guy could have done it.

Dr. Tanis drives a huge vehicle for a little lady; it's a big pickup truck.
Dr. Tanis' truck has Nevada plates... she drove all the way from Nevada to Massachusets?
Dr. Tanis' truck is right in line with where the shot would have come from... maybe the shooter braced themselves against it?
